I
have a switched network and Cyber Predator does not appear
to log any activity or only my pc?
This is because switched networks only send data to where
it needs to go, but, you can get around this by doing the
following, insert a normal HUB between your switched port
and your Internet gateway device (router/proxy server etc)
and plug the machine you have installed the data collector
into a spare port of the same hub, see diagram below:-
Why
do some users get their Logon IDs logged as UR_User?
This is because the username isn't advertised by Netbios,
there are a variety of causes, some are:
1) The user is also logged on somewhere else, Netbios
names are unique, and therefore do not get advertised on
more than 1 machine at a time.
2) If you have a PC with the same name as a user. Unique
names do not only apply to users, they apply to PC names,
domain names and workgroup names too, changing the
duplicate names will solve the problem.
3) Sometimes the PC will stop advertising the username,
log off and on again will solve this.
4) On NT machines, the Messenger service advertises the
Logon Name, and sometimes this service has been stopped,
make sure its set to start Automatically, and type
"Net Start Messenger" at a command Prompt to
start it now.
If you wish
to test this, from a DOS prompt type NBTSTAT -A then the
IP address of the PC you wish to query, you should see the
names listed, if the user name isn't in this list then it
won't get picked up.
My
Violation Console does not show any messages, but the Data
Collector is working OK?
This is because you have entered an incorrect IP address
for the Management Station in the main config program, the
Management Station IP address is the IP address you will
run the Violation Console on, and needs to be set
correctly so the Data Collector knows where to send the
messages, also after you make changes to this IP address
or port, you will need to restart the Data Collector.
In
the Violation Monitor and Quick View Reports the web site
is not shown for IC violations?
This is by design, in a later version we will marry the
incoming violation with the outgoing request to show the
web site the incoming violation came from.
What
does I/O error 32 mean?
This error message means that the file that the system is
trying to open is already open by another application, if
this happens, normally a system reboot is the quickest way
to solve it.
The
Data Collector service fails to start if the log files are
placed on a network drive or NTFS partition??
This is
because by default the Data Collector service run under
the security context of "System Account" and
this account will not have the relevant permissions to
access the network drive or the folder on the NTFS
partition.
It is easy to fix, set the "Cyber Predator Real Time
Data Collector" "Log on as" setting to
"This account" and create a new or choose an
existing NT user account with the correct permissions for
the location you wish the log files to be stored in. Some
people set this account to Administrator. It is IMPORTANT
that the account you do use has the "Password never
expires" option ticked in User Manager, otherwise if
the password does expire, and you restart the service it
won't start because it can't log on.
The
Help does not launch when I click the help button or press F1? This is
because the HTML Help system is not properly installed on
your computer, this can be rectified by installing
Internet Explorer 4 or later.
The
DC won't start and in the event log it says Adaptor Open
error?
The most common causes for this are:-
a) the wrong adaptor selected, from the start menu,
run the "Cyber Predator - Data Collector
Configuration Program" and choose the adaptor from
the drop down list, press Save, then restart the DC.
b) the account you are logged onto the machine with, or
the account the DC service is running under doesn't have
Administrator rights to the machine, add the account to
the Local Administrators group.
